After the response to our first leaked Nexus 5 (2015) image we put out the feelers for another angle of the phone and got the image you see below. We've cropped out the background again to protect our source, but the photo reveals the power button and volume buttons are now on the same side, further down than on the original Nexus 5. It's also a much thinner phone than the original Nexus 5.
The photo closely matches the CAD renders we've reproduced further below, but as @OnLeaks pointed out on Twitter, our photo has slightly differently placed buttons than the CAD renders in his possession. We can't explain the difference but we'll see all revealed on September 29 if not before.
Previously, another reliable source supplied the image below exclusively to AndroidPIT.com. It shows what the new 2015 LG Nexus looks like in its final form. It confirms previous Nexus 5 (2015) leaks, showing a circular finger scanner positioned below a raised camera lens. On the left-hand side is a dual-LED flash and laser auto-focus module.
Nexus 5 2015 release date
The Nexus 5 (2015) release date will be Tuesday, September 29 according to a report from CNET. CNET does not provide a source for this information, but recent, unrelated speculation also suggested this date. Other rumors point to a different name for the new LG Nexus: the Nexus 5X.This news might have inadvertently revealed the release date for Android Marshmallow too. Google usually drops its latest Nexus devices at the same time as the latest version of Android, as it did last year with the Nexus 6 and Android 5.0 Lollipop. Will we see this trend continue in 2015? It won't be long until we find out.
Nexus 5 2015 specs
We've been hearing reasonably consistent rumors about the Nexus 5 (2015) specs for a while now: Snapdragon 808, 3 GB of RAM, 16 GB/32 GB versions, 5.2-inch Full HD display and USB Type-C. Android Police has added some new details to that list, including a 2,700 mAh battery, black, white and blue color options, and a 12.3 MP main camera and 5 MP front-facing camera. While the site couldn't mention pricing specifics, we're feeling confident that previous information revealed to AndroidPIT is true: that the LG Nexus 5 (2015) price will be less than US$400. A source has also informed us that, despite recent rumors to the contrary, the 2015 Nexus camera won't be of the same quality as the LG G4's. A desire to hit this sub-US$400 price point would certainly explain the step down in the camera department.
On August 3, GizmoChina published an extensive list of specs for the new Nexus 5, which has now been contradicted by several other sources, including our own. It claims that the LG-built Nexus will feature:
5.2-inch full HD 1080p P-OLED display
Qualcomm Snapdragon 620 (MSM8976) processor
Up to 4 GB RAM
Up to 64 GB of internal storage
3180 mAh non-removable battery
802.11ac Wi-Fi, NFC, and Bluetooth 4.2
Front stereo speakers
Rear power button with integrated fingerprint sensor
13 MP rear camera
4 MP front camera with iris detection
USB Type-C connector with QuickCharge 2.0
The Chinese site also claimed that the handset would feature an aluminum frame and a matte plastic back cover. It varies from the latest leak above is a number ways, but it's worth noting that GizmoChina does not say where or how it obtained this information, so we can't vouch for its reliability.
Nexus 5 2015 design
Another leak of the Nexus 5 2015 design came from Indonesian Google+ user Inno Yudah and shows the back of the device (as seen at the top of this article). The handset has a similar design to what can be seen in the CAD video below and seems to confirm that a device with this design is indeed in the works.Earlier, Twitter leaker @OnLeaks tweeted the video below of a CAD render presumed to depict the Nexus 5 (2015). It is in line with a previous case render (also leaked by @OnLeaks, and shown above), which revealed two circular cut-outs on the rear of the device.
It appears as though the Nexus 5 (2015) will have a fingerprint scanner below a camera sensor on the back, with the camera flash and what looks like a laser-autofocus beside them. It also appears to have a USB Type-C port on the bottom, front-facing speakers and a matte rear.
It doesn't look like a particularly exciting handset right now, but then neither does the original Nexus 5. Its real value is likely to lie in its price/performance ratio.
