Huawei's range is something of a mystery. There's the P series, the Mate series, the Mate S series, and then there's Huawei's other brand, Honor. Devices under the Honor brand include the Honor 7, Honor 7 Plus and Honor Holly. Distinguishing between all of these products can be tricky, but all of them are great and noble smartphones for relatively low price.
Huawei P9 release date and price
The Huawei P8 was launched in April, 2015, so the Huawei P9 release date is likely to fall around the same time next year. There had been speculation that it could arrive before the end of 2015, but that seems unlikely, given that Huawei has only recently released the Mate S and the Nexus 6P.The Huawei P8 entered the market at around US$530, so the Huawei P9 price will probably also be in the region of US$500.
Huawei P9 specs
Based on what has been rumored so far, it seems that the Huawei P9 will feature the new Kirin 950 processor – a chip that Huawei itself is developing. Leaked benchmarks suggest that this is even faster than Samsung's powerful Exynos 7420, meaning the Huawei P9 could be one of the fastest phones on Android.Like Huawei's other flagships, the P9 is likely to feature a Full HD display resolution, as the Chinese manufacturer has consistently ignored QHD technology. The display is said to measure in at 5.2 inches, like the Huawei P8.
A leaked photograph from mobipicker indicates that the P9 camera will be equipped with two lenses, with laser autofocus, and would produce photos at a 16 MP resolution. It's also expected to have a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and 4 GB of RAM.
The Huawei P8 is an excellent all-round package and so we only expect the P9 to be an incremental improvement. We do hope it will have a larger battery, though, because the 2,600 mAh cell in the P8 is just too small for a Full HD handset. Huawei's EMUI software is also in need of an overhaul. Though it is, technically, one of the more unique Android software skins, it's also one of the least impressive (read our thoughts on it in our Huawei P8 review).
Huawei P9 design
The Huawei P8 and, more recently, the Huawei Mate S are highly polished devices in terms of design, with diamond cuts in every nook and cranny. We expect another metal unibody for the P9, with a flat rear and Gorilla Glass screen protection, but we don't think it will differ from its predecessor much in the looks department. We'll update this page with more information as we get it.
