OLX gang arrested for looting public

A group of 5 fraudsters has been arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) who used to befool people through OLX ads.
According to media briefing, after receiving a number of complaints from the victims, FIA and Citizen-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) made a joint raid in Karachi and arrested the gang. The investigation agency has revealed that the gang used the famous ad posting website OLX for hunting people.

FIA explained that the gang would post the ads of “cars for sale” on OLX at cheap prices for gathering a quick interest of the interested buyers.

“They used to demand cheaper prices of cars which definitely attracted the people towards them, ” said an FIA official while talking to the media.

Officials further explained that they took the buyer to a car showroom in the city and locked the deals there by demanding prices much lower than the market rates. After finalizing the deal, they took 10% to 20% as down payment and then vanished.

They would take the buyers to any showroom in the city of their (buyer’s) choice for ensuring that the deal was genuine and, interestingly, no showroom owner had the idea of their presence during the whole period they remained active.

FIA traced the group by their bank accounts and CCTV footage from the bank. Three of the involved criminals have been identified as Azam Rahman Butt, Irfan Bashir and Muneer Khan.

The authority explained that the gang was Punjab-based but was operating in different areas of Karachi. They have already deceived hundreds of innocent people since 2015.

OLX is an ad posting website where anyone can post ads for jobs, items, or any other thing, it is currently the largest classified website in Pakistan in terms of daily visitors.
