If you’re currently toting an iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus or indeed anything a little older, then you’re probably starting to think about ways to try and make the expense of a whole new iPhone a little more palatable. We know we are. Thankfully, there are ways and means of getting a princely sum for your old hardware, especially if it’s in good condition. There are numerous different ways of selling your current iPhone, and how you do it is up to you.
Amazon
If you’re willing to take payment in gift card credit, then you could do much worse than choose Amazon as your iPhone purchaser. Depending on which iPhone you’re wanting to move on from as well as its condition, Amazon is often ahead of the pack when it comes to how much it will pay for your old gear.
eBay
Probably where it all began for many when it comes to selling old technology online, eBay has gone through a few changes over the years and not always for the better. Selling phones on eBay can be difficult at times, especially with there being no shortage of people wanting to try and scam an unsuspecting seller. eBay isn’t for the faint of heart here, so make sure you’re on your A-game when selling your iPhone if eBay is the way you go.
Best Buy
While not necessarily offering the best deals as far as prices paid are concerned, Best Buy does have one considerable advantage over many of the options here, and that’s the method of making the sale. If you want to be able to walk into a store and make the deal in person, then Best Buy is likely to be one of the better bets. There’s little chance of Best Buy trying to rip you off or steal your iPhone, too.
Gazelle
An Internet favorite and often one of the best paying around, Gazelle will buy your iPhone from you so long as you send it off to them. They’ll examine the iPhone and make sure it’s up to par before handing over the cash, but you can have that money in a variety of different ways depending on which suits you best.
Apple
Via its trade-in program and only in selected countries, Apple will take your old iPhone off of your hands and give you money off a new one. If you’ve ever bought a car and chopped your old wheels in as part-exchange, then this will all seem very familiar, and familiar is good. Craigslist
If you’re down with meeting people in parking lots and handing over your iPhone for cold, hard cash then Craigslist may be for you. Be careful where you meet and make sure you take a friend with you, though, and you should be just fine. Prices paid for iPhones on Craigslist can vary wildly, but if you find the right buyer, this may be the better alternative.
One thing to remember is if you’re using a trade-in service or selling to a company like Gazelle, prices paid can fluctuate especially if a lot of iPhones are being traded or sold. That means that if you’re going to be upgrading to a new iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus, you might want to lock your sale price in now, before everyone else has the same idea following Wednesday’s event.
Good luck!
